Golden Bowl, the only bowling center in the city of Golden, was established in 1952.  It was the home of many bowling tournaments, and avid bowlers who earned their place in the 300 Club.  Golden Bowl was around before automatic scoring became the norm and when bowling pins were re-set by hand and a view of busy hands and feet behind the pins could be seen from the bowling settee.  It was and still is the hang-out place for many high school students from Golden High School and college kids from School of Mines. Today, the bowling center with its rotating sign on the corner of 24th and East St. and old Coca-cola sign on its southeast façade, is listed as a historical landmark.

Golden Bowl was extensively renovated in 2006 under the new ownership of Thomas Yang, an immigrant who came to America at age 16 and who barely spoke any English.  All 24 lanes were refurbished with automatic scoring, upgraded pin setters and overhead television screens.  Recently, in June of 2008, in order to meet the requirements for bowling tournaments, synthetic lanes were installed to replace many of the old wooden ones that had deteriorated.

On May 1st 2009 the new owners Gary and Suzanne Oliver took over and renamed Golden Bowl to Golden Family Bowl. They have reopened the kitchen as the Golden Pin Snack Bar and are now serving pizza, hamburgers and other bowling foods.

At the bar and lounge, Texas Hold-em tournaments are held every Tuesday and Friday evenings.  There is no cost and winners earn gift certificates up to $15.   The center also has an extensive snack bar menu that serves popcorn, hotdogs, hamburgers, nachos and  Pizzas.  For the kids, there are several video arcade games.  For the "oldies", see our wall of 300 Club members' pictures from the past 50 years and remember the good old days.

Golden Family Bowl has actively participated in the community, holding many fundraisers for individuals, businesses and non-profit groups.  Golden Family Bowl is proud to have brought bowling classes back to Golden High School students and sponsored the first Golden High School Bowling Team that competed against other teams.  The center is also host to the annual "Scrambowl - bowling for lights" that decorate South Golden Road every Christmas season.  In summer, bowling camps for youth are offered, and on every first Saturday from May through August, Golden Family Bowl is part of the "Golden Cruise" exhibition of antique cars open to the public.
